HNF110 Handheld Clamp-On Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Handheld (portable) ultrasonic flow meter / heat meter for non-invasive measurement on the outside of the pipe — no cutting, no shutdown, no pressure loss, so it is ideal for spot checks, flow surveys, energy audits and commissioning work. Working principle: transit-time (time-difference) method — the flow of liquid changes the propagation time of the ultrasonic beam, and the difference between the upstream and downstream transit times is proportional to flow velocity. Because the two transducers' transit times are identical at zero flow, it is the only technology that can genuinely measure zero flow and detect reverse flow. Accuracy: flow ±1%, heat ±2%. Pipe coverage DN15–DN6000 with clamp-on transducers — standard-temperature types (−30…90 ℃): S1 (DN15–100), M1 (DN50–700), L1 (DN300–6000); high-temperature types (−30…160 ℃): S1-HT / M1-HT / L1-HT. Measurable liquids: water, seawater, industrial sewage, acid and alkali liquids, alcohol, various oils and other single, uniform liquids that conduct ultrasound; pipe materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, PVC, copper, aluminium and other dense pipes, with lining parameters supported. Display and operation: dot-matrix backlit LCD (6×12 Chinese / 6×25 Western characters) with a 16+4 soft-touch keypad, menu navigation (MENU 00 window home key), power key (long press 3 s), backlight/Bluetooth key and a built-in flashlight. Data handling: built-in logger stores 16,500 sets of measurement data with data storage, printing and statistical analysis functions; Type-C interface for PC connection or charging; MODBUS communication protocol. Power: standard rechargeable Ni-MH battery (8 h charge / 8 h work), also accepts 3× alkaline batteries (about 4 h), a 10,000 mAh power bank (about 40 h) or an external supply for uninterrupted measurement; power consumption 1.1 W. Housing: flame-retardant ABS; dimensions 208 × 102 × 48 mm; charging indicator (red = charging, green = full). Add a clamp-on temperature sensor (AET-1, ≥DN50, −40…160 ℃, installs without flow interruption) to convert the unit into a heat meter for energy integration and heat metering.

HNF110 Handheld Clamp-On Ultrasonic Flow Meter

HNF110 is a handheld (portable) ultrasonic flow meter / heat meter for non-invasive measurement on the outside of the pipe — no cutting, no shutdown, no pressure loss, so it is ideal for spot checks, flow surveys, energy audits and commissioning work. It works on the transit-time (time-difference) principle, with flow accuracy ±1% and heat accuracy ±2%, covering DN15–DN6000 pipe sizes. It stores 16,500 sets of measurement data and supports MODBUS and Type-C, with Ni-MH, alkaline, power-bank or external power for continuous field use.

Measure flow and heat from outside the pipe — no cutting, no shutdown

HNF110 measures from the outside wall of the pipe, so there is no cutting, no production shutdown and no pressure loss — ideal for spot checks, flow surveys, energy audits and commissioning of new pipework. Liquid flow changes the propagation time of the ultrasonic beam, and the difference between the upstream and downstream transit times is proportional to flow velocity. Because the two transducers' transit times are identical at zero flow, this is the only technology that can genuinely measure zero flow and detect reverse flow.

The transducers clamp onto both sides of the pipe wall and suit steel, stainless steel, cast iron, PVC, copper and aluminium — dense pipes with lining parameters supported. It measures water, seawater, industrial sewage, acid and alkali liquids, alcohol and various oils: single, uniform liquids that conduct ultrasound.

Typical duties: HVAC and building energy audits, heat metering verification and balancing, district heating & cooling, water supply and drainage, industrial sewage and wastewater, seawater and brine circuits, acid/alkali and chemical liquids, alcohol and solvents, oil and fuel transfer, pump and pipeline inspection, hydraulic system testing, temporary or spot-check flow measurement, commissioning of new pipework, irrigation and agriculture, marine and shipboard piping, laboratory and research flow measurement.

Is HNF110 right for your application?

Choose this model when the following apply:

  • You need to measure flow without cutting the pipe or stopping production (clamp-on installation).

  • Pipe size is DN15–DN6000, covered by the S1 / M1 / L1 transducers.

  • Media are single, uniform liquids that conduct ultrasound: water, seawater, sewage, acid/alkali liquids, alcohol or oil.

  • You need to measure zero flow, detect reverse flow, or perform heat metering with an AET-1 temperature sensor.

  • You need portable power (built-in Ni-MH battery, alkaline cells, power bank or external supply) for continuous measurement.

  • You need data logging (16,500 records), PC export and MODBUS communication.

Check with us first if: the liquid carries large amounts of gas bubbles or solids, the liquid does not conduct ultrasound, the pipe is non-dense or lined, or the media temperature is outside the selected transducer range (standard −30 to 90 °C, high-temperature −30 to 160 °C).

Why clamp-on / transit-time

No cutting, no shutdown

The transducers clamp onto the outside of the pipe and never enter the line, so measurement does not interrupt production — ideal for spot checks and energy audits on live systems.

True zero-flow and reverse-flow measurement

In the transit-time method the upstream and downstream transit times are equal at zero flow, so HNF110 genuinely measures zero flow and identifies reverse flow, whereas most meters force the reading to zero through low-flow cutoff.

Portable with long runtime

Four power options — Ni-MH rechargeable battery, alkaline cells, a 10,000 mAh power bank and external supply — let you keep measuring in the field.

Two meters in one: flow + heat

Add an AET-1 clamp-on temperature sensor (≥DN50, −40 to 160 °C, installed without flow interruption) to turn the unit into a heat meter for energy integration and heat metering.

Installation & Commissioning

Confirm these four items before ordering:

  1. Pipe outer diameter and wall thickness — pick the S1 / M1 / L1 transducer and set the spacing accordingly.

  2. Pipe material and lining — confirm a dense pipe; set lining parameters where needed.

  3. Media and temperature — confirm the liquid conducts ultrasound and is within the selected transducer range.

  4. Heat metering or not — add the AET-1 clamp-on temperature sensor if heat measurement is required.

Clean the pipe surface and remove rust before mounting, and choose a straight run with fully developed flow. Use the V-method for DN15–200 mm and the Z-method for DN200–6000 mm. Apply 2–3 mm of couplant evenly before mounting so the transducers couple well to the wall, then check the signal and zero-flow state before use.

Outputs & System Integration

  • Built-in data logging: stores 16,500 sets of measurement data with storage, printing and statistical analysis for audits and verification.

  • Type-C / MODBUS: connect to a PC over Type-C to transfer data or charge, and communicate with systems via MODBUS.

  • Heat metering: with the AET-1 clamp-on temperature sensor, output instantaneous / total heat for energy integration and metering.

FAQ

Can it measure flow without stopping production?

Yes. HNF110 uses clamp-on, non-invasive installation — the transducers mount on the outside of the pipe, so no cutting or shutdown is needed.

Which clamp-on transducer covers DN300 to DN6000?

DN300–DN6000 uses the L1 (large) transducer, with an L1-HT high-temperature version. M1 covers DN50–700 and S1 covers DN15–100.

Does it detect reverse and zero flow?

Yes. Based on the transit-time method, the upstream and downstream transit times are equal at zero flow, so it genuinely measures zero flow and identifies reverse flow.

How many measurement records can the built-in logger store for audits?

The logger stores 16,500 sets of measurement data, with storage, printing and statistical analysis functions for energy audits and metering verification.

What power options extend handheld operation beyond the rechargeable battery?

Besides the Ni-MH rechargeable battery (8 h charge / 8 h work), it accepts 3× alkaline cells (approx. 4 h), a 10,000 mAh power bank (approx. 40 h) and an external supply for uninterrupted measurement.
